First Day Jitters

I'm starting my back to school shopping and looking for some great books to kick off my Reading Workshop. One of my all time favorites is "First Day Jitters". The kids really enjoy the fact that the teacher is just as nervous to start a new school year as they are.

I found a FREE craftivity from  First Grade WOW
You can download it by clicking HERE

This year my school will be starting a new reading program called Ready Gen. I've never heard of it before and there really isn't much info about it on the net. That's one of the reason MY first day jitters are beginning to kick in.

If anyone out there has used this program before...please share your experience!

Interactive Reading Journal

It's such a challenge to get my students "actively" involved in reading. Let's face it, some kids enjoy it and some don't...no matter what you do to get them interested. I love the foldables I see on the internet but I needed something a little more consistent. That's why I decided to make this interactive reading journal.

My students had a blast last year working with their new reading journals. I actually had parents call me when their child was absent asking if I could email them the templates so their son/daughter wouldn't miss out!
The interactive reading journal includes pictures of every foldable template. I included options on how to use the templates, as well as blank templates to allow your own creativity to shine through. The fact is - some of us prefer structure, and some of us prefer to do our own thing - just like our students!

Remind101 - Texting Parents & Students

Are you using Remind101?

It's a text generator app that allows you to send reminder texts to parents without them having your number! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Who invented this?! I LOVE IT! Best of all, it's a FREE app. (If it's free...it's for me!)

Here's how it works:
Download the app and create a class for yourself.
If you teach upper elementary/middle/high school, you can make as many classes as you want and you can use it to remind students of things.

Give out your information.
Remind101 will give you a phone number to share with parents/students. All they have to do is send a text to that number with your class name and they will automatically be enrolled in text reminders!
